This page explains the UAE employment visa process for companies licensed in Ajman. An Ajman employment visa is the UAE residence visa your company sponsors for an employee. It lets the employee live in the UAE and work for your company. The standard work visa is valid for two years and can be renewed while the job and your licence continue. It is cancelled when the employment ends.
The route depends on where your company is licensed. An Ajman mainland company hires through MOHRE: the employee signs MOHRE's official job offer, MOHRE issues the work permit, then ICP issues the entry permit and residence. A free zone company in Ajman applies through its free zone authority, which issues the entry permit and processes the residence with ICP; MOHRE is not involved for free zone employees. In both cases the company needs a valid Establishment Card and a free visa slot. In Ajman Free Zone, the number of slots depends on your office or facility. Residence for Ajman companies goes through ICP, not GDRFA Dubai.
Step by step, the process runs like this. Check the quota and choose a job title that matches the employee's qualifications. Sign the job offer. Apply for the work permit (mainland) or entry permit (free zone). The employee enters the UAE, or changes status if already in the country, takes the medical fitness test at an approved centre in Ajman and gives Emirates ID biometrics. Since January 2025 employers in Ajman must also provide at least basic health insurance before the residence can be issued. Mainland employers then submit the MOHRE employment contract. The residence is issued electronically and the Emirates ID is the proof of residence; there is no passport sticker. ICP expects the residence to be completed within 60 days of entry.

Higher-skilled job titles need an attested degree or diploma, so check the employee's certificate before choosing the job title. Under UAE Labour Law the employer pays the recruitment and visa costs. The employment visa cost in the UAE is made up of the work permit or entry permit and residence fees, the medical test, the Emirates ID, health insurance, any certificate attestation, optional urgent processing and our service fee. Who pays for the employment visa?
The employer. UAE Labour Law says recruitment and employment costs must not be charged to the employee.
Does the employee need an attested degree?
It depends on the job title. MOHRE skill levels 1–2 need a bachelor's degree or higher, levels 3–4 a diploma, level 5 a high school certificate, and levels 6–9 no certificate. Certificates must be attested by the UAE embassy in the issuing country and MOFA.
Is health insurance required?
Yes. Since January 2025, employers in Ajman must provide at least basic health insurance before a residence is issued or renewed.
Can an employee sponsor family on an employment visa?
Yes, with a monthly income of at least AED 4,000, or AED 3,000 plus employer-provided housing, plus suitable accommodation. Job title no longer matters.
What happens when the employee leaves?
The employer cancels the work permit and residence. The employee then has a grace period to change status or leave. Its length depends on the visa category, so we confirm it at the time.
