Description
When people talk about a freelance visa in Ajman, they mean the residence visa you get through an Ajman Free Zone (AFZ) freelancer licence. There is no separate visa called a "freelance visa". You first get the licence, which AFZ calls the Sole Professional License or Freelancer Package, and the licence then lets you apply for a UAE residence visa for yourself. The licence is the legal permission to work for your own clients; the visa is your right to live in the UAE.
The licence is built for consultants, IT and digital specialists, marketers, designers, media professionals and trainers. Your activity must fall within one of the freelance categories AFZ approves, and AFZ currently lists 40. The licence has a single owner, who keeps 100% ownership, and it comes with a co-working space at AFZ's Freelancer & Pioneers Hub, so you don't need to rent an office.
**What the visa covers.** The licence holder can apply for a residence visa, and AFZ lists family sponsorship as a benefit. **Freelance visa requirements in the UAE.** Most freelance routes ask for the same things: a valid passport, an approved activity, a workspace, and a medical test and Emirates ID for the visa. If you plan to take partners or build a team, or expect to need a larger office, start with a free zone company in Ajman. AFZ doesn't let a freelancer package be upgraded into a business-centre package later; you would have to change the licence type.

It depends on your documents and on immigration processing. AFZ issues the licence first. It says the establishment card takes up to three working days and normal residence visa issuance up to four working days; the entry permit, medical and Emirates ID steps add time in between. The licence application can be prepared remotely, but you need to be in Ajman for the medical and Emirates ID biometrics.
Can I change to a bigger licence later?
AFZ doesn't allow a freelancer package to be upgraded into a business-centre package. You'd change the licence type instead. You also can't downgrade an existing company to a freelancer package; you'd need to cancel and apply again.
